A Civil Defence Centre is a hub for the coordination of any community emergency response. It is opened and managed entirely by the public. Its effectiveness depends on you!
Civil Defence Centres
Civil Defence Centres are at pre-set locations, each containing a basic start-up kit consisting of an AM/FM radio, maps and a two-way radio that allows communication with your council’s Emergency Operations Centre.
Once you have checked on your household and neighbours, you may want to go to a Civil Defence Centre:
- if you need help
- if you can help others by sharing resources and skills
- to gather and share information on what has happened in your neighbourhood.
During an emergency locations or venues that are not pre-defined civil defence centres may become community hubs. These are places where the community will meet to share resources and information, just like a Civil Defence Centre. These community hubs may replace the established Civil Defence Centres and become a link between the central response and your community
