In the build up to Rourou - our Seeds to Feeds dinner (see below), Shepherd Elliott will run a short workshop on fermentation and using unusual fruit & vege. Come and join us, you can either take your ferment home with you or we would love if you can donate some of it, to be eaten at our Rourou feast!
Shepherd is an amazing chef, of Shepherd Restaurant who is also the chef for Rourou. He will show us the basics of fermentation and we will learn (by doing) how to make a lacto ferment - a great way to preserve bulk veges!
We will also have some time to learn about we can do when we end up with unusual fruit and veg - bring any unfamiliar produce or questions along!
Iri and Saskia will also be hanging around making kombucha for our Rourou feast, come and learn or give us a hand! (We need some extra scobys).
FREE/KOHA, ALL WELCOME - no matter your cooking skills! Everything is provided, however, if you would like to give a koha or bring along some ingredients to help out, that would be appreciated. We need some spare scobys, big kombucha vessels and bottles, tea, jars, vege like cabbage, carrot etc.
We would love to keep this going as a regular cooking workshop - if you are keen to help us out/be involved, let us know.
Please register if you would like to come with Saskia;

What is Rourou - Seeds to Feeds Dinner?
Tuesday March 17th 6-9pm at MMCC
For this dinner, we have been growing food in Te Motu Kairangi over the last few months. Now it’s time to come and celebrate the beauty of the people and gardens in our community! This will be a relaxed dinner where you can experience live music, conversations with your community, local beer from Double Vision and our local produce crafted into a delicious three-course meal, by Shepherd (from Shepherd restaurant).
As we are also celebrating Neighbor’s Day and bringing together our diverse community… If you have the means, we encourage you to buy a ticket for someone else. Maybe that neighbor you have never got around to meeting, or the elderly person down the road that might enjoy a lovely meal and company?
This is a conversation starter, to grow inspiration around local food and community connectedness. Join the kai and kōrero, tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/seeds-to-feeds-miramar-rourou-food-basket-tickets-92643556371?fbclid=IwAR2IjQYhb8BwKGHutoUucXNh8xkJUA-XX5qAaceeJ2WCBnejlppLl7tq_qQ
